Gab Rhome makes dance music with a musician’s ear for what happens between the beats. Based in Montreal and spending part of his time in Paris, he began studying music theory at six and grew up listening to jazz. His deep house brings that melodic education together with detailed percussion and rhythms drawn from African, Cuban and Brazilian music.

The human touch

His studio stories explain the human feel behind those records. Discussing Drifting in 2015, he described recording much of the EP through microphones and playing percussion, synthesizers and vocals live. Leaving small variations in the performances was part of the point. Hardware gave him a direct way to work with sound, while the recordings held together through the texture of the room and the instruments.

There is careful composition behind the looseness. In a 2018 interview, he connected his grooves to jazz and his arrangements to classical music. Madama Firefly drew on the relationships between keys in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, using harmonic changes to create movement without continually adding new parts. Another track, Do Not Grill Inside, came together after he returned to an overcrowded project and removed most of its elements. His humour runs through the same interviews, where serious musical explanations sit comfortably beside stories about bathrobes.

On record

That combination of craft and play has found homes on All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Last Night On Earth and Kindisch. His performance history includes Burning Man, Tomorrowland and Nocturnal Wonderland. Tempo e Paixão followed in May 2026: two tracks shaped by the rhythm, melody and curiosity that run through his work.
