Julia Sandstorm

About

Julia Sandstorm came to music through both listening and movement. Born and raised in Stockholm, the Los Angeles-based DJ, producer and singer credits her parents with shaping that connection. Her father introduced her to rock and indie records and gave her a guitar at twelve. Her mother, a dancer, enrolled her in dance school at five; as a teenager, Julia came close to choosing dance as a career.

Guitars, rhythm and soul

Those beginnings remain useful clues to her music. Guitars, weighty basslines and a touch of acid sit alongside soulful vocals and percussion. In a 2026 Mixmag Caribbean interview, she explained that a vocal or instrument can carry the feeling of rock, soul or disco into an electronic track. Sometimes she makes that connection directly, placing a rock or disco record inside a DJ set.

Reading the room

She has named Carl Cox as an enduring inspiration for the visible pleasure he takes in playing and his freedom to move between genres. Her own version of that freedom includes a remix of Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love, a track she described to Gray Area as a particular favourite when the moment is right. The room still decides the timing. Even her pre-show routine has a personal detail: a bar of dark chocolate, carried with her on tour.

Her releases on Yes Yes Yes, Insomniac Records and Playground Music include Sarvam, Simmer and Leviosa. Performances at Pacha Ibiza, Burning Man, Red Rocks and Electric Zoo have brought those different musical threads to very different settings. Worth It, her contribution to ALL OF US 001, places that mix of percussion, voice and movement inside a ten-track family record.
