About

Before Niv Ast was making club records, he was choosing between a guitar and a football club. Growing up in Tel Aviv, he spent much of his childhood playing football and computer games, then took his first guitar lesson at fourteen. The guitar stayed. So did the voice: his early recordings placed singing at the centre of a psychedelic indie-pop approach.

Songs becoming club records

His first album, Like Sheep (we run from ourselves), appeared in 2011. By the time he began moving towards dance music around 2017, he had already spent years DJing. In a 2019 interview, he described the change as something that happened naturally through watching people dance. He kept singing and playing guitar as the rhythms changed, allowing the earlier songwriter to remain audible inside the electronic producer.

A place for every influence

That connection is explicit in Bag Of Hopes, released through his label Band Apart. Discussing the album in 2023, he explained how heavy electronic kick drums and bass gave him a foundation for vocal hooks and rock guitar riffs. His live work brings his own material into a performance with guitars, percussion, keys, electronic drums and vocals. Remixing offers another form of play: a limited collection of someone else’s sounds becomes material he can reshape in his own voice.

Alongside Band Apart, Niv runs New Day Everyday with Eliezer. His records have appeared on Correspondant, Disco Halal, Get Physical, Watergate Records, Optimo Music and Blue Shadow. On I AM YOU, his 2026 releases move from Pa Pa Pa in July to Freak Outta Love and the album Just For Fun in August, carrying his mix of acid, punk and disco into the catalogue.
